Sense of Hearing

👂 What do families hear when they visit your church?

The sense of hearing plays a powerful role in shaping how both new and long-time families experience your church. From the moment they walk in, the sounds they encounter—whether it’s friendly greetings, joyful conversations, or uplifting music—set the emotional tone of their visit. Clear, engaging worship music helps families feel included and inspired, while thoughtful announcements and sermons ensure they feel informed and valued. On the other hand, background noise that’s too chaotic or communication that feels unclear can leave parents distracted and disconnected. By planning carefully around what people hear, a church can create an atmosphere of warmth, clarity, and belonging that speaks to the hearts of families of all ages.

Here are a couple question you can begin to ask yourself about how your church values what people HEAR?

  • What is the language that your greeters and leaders are using?

  • Does your Worship music have a balance of traditional and contemporary, with family appeal?

  • How would you describe your announcements?

  • Would you say your Kid's ministry space is fun and energetic without chaos?

  • Does the sermons occasionally include illustrations or stories that they can connect to?

  • Does the church teach Word and offer ways to grow (discipleship)?

We have provided a scorecard to help you see how your church is doing using the sense of hearing.
